Die beleidigte Schrottbude

Their trail ride date the day before had ended in uncomfortable silence. Rowan couldn’t let it go. They had been having such a good time — until they reached the Eastern Slopes. Something shifted there. The mood changed. He needed to talk to Claire. Claire, however, was disappointed by Rowan’s reaction when she showed him the ranch — and she didn’t hide it.

Claire: “I bought the ranch. It was my decision. Sometimes you have to jump before you know if someone will jump with you.”

Rowan: “Claire… then show it to me properly. Not as a rumor — but as your vision. As your future.”

Claire: “You really want to?”

Rowan: “Well… if I already insulted a junkyard that happens to belong to you, I should probably secure myself a place in it. For our future. Preferably somewhere the roof doesn’t leak.”

Claire showed him everything. From his expression she could read confusion… shock… disbelief. But he didn’t interrupt her. He simply couldn’t see what she saw. And Claire knew — once it was finished, he would love it just as much as she did. She described her vision: A beautiful home. A real place to belong. Spacious stables for the stallions — separate from the others. A large riding arena. A round pen. Wide paddocks. She painted the picture with such detail and excitement that Rowan could almost see it himself. And suddenly — he understood. She was right. This could be their future. As they headed back, Rowan finally spoke.

Rowan: “I always knew you were a little crazy — but this? This is a massive leap into cold water. But you know what… I’m jumping with you.”

Claire: “Rowan! That’s amazing! I’m so happy. And yes — I know I’m crazy. That’s exactly what you love about me.”

When they arrived at Meadowland, they immediately burst in with the news.

Rowan: “Guys, we’ve got big news!”

Claire: “I bought the old Field Farm in the Eastern Slopes.”

Gillian: “Well… that is big news.”

Jamie: “What?! Not that old junkyard?!”

Jamie felt instantly guilty and pulled Rowan aside.

Jamie: “This is all my fault. I took Claire there when I bought Magica. She asked so many questions. I had no idea…”

Rowan: “Relax, Jamie. I was shocked at first too. But Claire has a vision — and it’s a good one. It’s going to be fantastic. Whatever Claire touches turns into success.”

I was happy for her. And yet… something inside me felt uneasy.

Gillian: “I’m happy for you, Claire. But does that mean you’re leaving Meadowland?”

Claire: “Gillian, it’ll take a long time until everything is finished. And even then — I won’t just disappear. Meadowland was my chance. And you gave it to me. I won’t forget that.”

That evening, Claire and Rowan raised a glass of champagne.

Rowan: “To you and your ranch!”

Claire: “To us — and our future!”
