Tag der Entscheidung

Claire trifft beim Turnier eine Entscheidung, die ihr ganzes Leben verändern wird. Zwischen Sieg, Öffentlichkeit und familiärem Druck beginnt für sie ein neuer Weg.

Claire spoke to Rowan about her plan to leave professional show jumping.

Claire: “Rowan, I’m going to quit the sport. I’ve given everything to Jarla Equestrian, but now it’s time to stop. I just can’t do this anymore.”

Rowan: “Claire! Do you really want to give all of this up? We’ve trained so hard for years — and you’re at the peak of your career. If it’s truly your wish, I’ll stand behind you. But please think about it again.”

Before the jumping rounds that weekend, the two of them walked the course together.

Claire: “This is my last competition. No matter how it ends — today I’ll announce my retirement.”

Rowan: “You have my support. I just hope nothing between us changes. You’re very important to me, Claire.”

Rowan entered the arena and delivered a flawless round.

Announcer: “Rowan Clearwater with a fantastic ride! Zero faults in a time of 3 minutes 48 seconds. That will be hard to beat!”

Then it was Claire’s turn.

Announcer: “... our golden girl, Claire Riverton! Zero faults and a time of 3 minutes 34 seconds — she takes the victory!!!”

Claire finished first. Rowan followed in second place. The Baroness presented the ribbons.

Baroness: “My heartfelt congratulations to you all. And now, the lap of honor!”

Afterward, there was a press conference for the “Grand Prix of Silverglade.” When it was Claire’s turn to answer questions, she announced the unexpected.

Claire: “Ladies and gentlemen, after careful consideration, I would like to inform you today of my retirement from professional sport. I thank everyone for the successful cooperation over the past years.”

And just like that — it was out. Her parents jumped to their feet in shock. Even Jamie and I hadn’t anticipated this turn during the press conference. Claire remained composed — though it surely wasn’t easy. With a steady voice, she answered every question from the reporters. Claire loved show jumping. But from now on, she would pursue it in her own way. I was proud of her. And we would all stand by her side — no matter what came next. Outside the entrance, Claire’s parents stood in disbelief.

Mrs. Riverton: “What were you thinking, child?!”

Mr. Riverton: “Claire, we’re going home. Rowan, you’re coming with us!”

Behind closed doors at the Jorvik stables, the discussion continued — loudly enough for everyone outside to hear.

Mrs. Riverton: “…Claire, you are the future of our company. Show jumping is our business. How could you betray us like this…”

Mr. Riverton: “…how could you?! Your place is in professional sport. You are our flagship. Have you thought about the damage to our image?!”

Claire: “…show jumping is my life. But there are other ways to live it…”

Rowan: “…please, just let Claire finish…”

After long and heated arguments, Claire and Rowan fled to Meadowland.

Gillian: “You did the right thing. You have to live your life — not your parents’.”

Claire: “The fight with my parents really weighs on me.”

Rowan: “They’ll calm down. They still have me — and if you’re not there, I can start taking first place for them now.”

Jamie: “It just needs time to sink in. Give them a few days.”

Claire felt both liberated — and deeply hurt. But we would catch her if she fell. And help her find her way forward.
